Before I say anything you NEED to come to Awaken Coffee! This is absolutely my favorite coffee I've ever had and I'm wishing I didn't live in Texas just to come back. The coffee is not overly sweetened (perfect in my book) and they have super cute names for a lot of their drinks!
My husband and I were passing through Knoxville on part of our road trip from Asheville to Nashville. We're huge into coffee and wanted to find the best in Knoxville and boy did we luck out with Awaken!
The staff were very friendly, welcoming and don't make you feel in a rush. Below their menu they have a board with specialty drinks which range from the Grinch to the Hulk to a s'mores latte. I love their variety and fun names! My husband asked for a caramel latte going light on the caramel (he doesn't like when it's too sweet) and the barista assured us they are not like Starbucks and don't over do it on syrup and sweetness. thank goodness. I went for the Polar Bear (white mocha and peppermint). Sadly we had to get going so we took them to-go. Wow. Absolutely perfect coffee. We both compliment them on their ratios. I love the subtle peppermint flavors in mine- I won't be burnt out on peppermint in just one drink- so thank you Awaken!
The inside is very warm and inviting with more of a modern atmosphere. Comfy seating of course and a Christmas tree! I wish I had taken a photo but they had painted Buddy the Elf on the front window with the "best cup of coffee".
Bathrooms are available to customers and a key is needed to access.
I'm sad there's not a big chance we'll be back in Knoxville anytime soon but I really hope people continue to come to Awaken and get to experience and enjoy their coffee! -

I'm so happy I had the opportunity to visit this hidden gem for a Yelp Elite event! The staff pulled out all the stops and I tasted some of the best coffee I've had in a long time. A million thanks to barista, Caleb, for answering all my questions and serving masterpieces in coffee cups! The atmosphere was cozy and includes a loft area upstairs that can be reserved for privacy. They have many milk alternatives and I found that the Nutella Latte with almond milk was still very rich and flavorful.
A word of caution: if you do have dietary restrictions or milk allergies like I do, be sure to over confirm that the alternative was actually used. Don't worry about being "that customer" because the staff confirmed this is the best way to communicate restrictions. On my second visit to the shop, I ordered another Nutella Latte with almond milk but cow's milk was used. I could tell immediately because I had two separate reactions. I called the shop to inquire how I could prevent a similar mishap in the future and was advised that double and triple checking is the best way! -

Awaken is a nice bright coffee shop located in downtown Knoxville. There's plenty of room to spread out and find a corner of your own to work in or you can grab a high top table and chat with friends. Their baristas are knowledgeable and their menu features a variety of coffee drinks. WiFi is available.

We always find local coffee shops when we travel. We found this place on Yelp & decided to check it out on our way to a Tennessee football game. If you blink you will miss the door to this place. We really didn't know where you were supposed to park to go here but we found a place on the side of the road. I got the Almond Joy, which was good. I debated between that and the Nutella. I think Nutella may have been a better choice. My fiancé got the bourbon barrel cold brew. He said it taste the way it sounds, like wood. He said he would get something else next time. This place was cool though.
